Octavia Spencer Nabs Oscar for ‘The Help’

By Ann Mamie | February 27, 2012 | Film, News, Oscars | 9 Comments

Montgomery, Alabama native Octavia Spencer brought home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Help… or in The Help language, ‘Minny don’ won her an Oscar!’

And Viola Davis, although losing Best Actress to Meryl Streep for Iron Lady, made an even bigger statement by ditching her wigs and rocking a stylish natural ‘do.

See the look:

Before the Oscar event her husband, Julius Tennon, told her about her wigs:

“If you want to wear it for your career, that’s fine, but in your life wear your hair. Step into who you are! It’s a powerful statement.”

Davis told InStyle about whether she would return to wigs:

“We’ll see. I think I’ll change it up every once in a while. It gives me flavor. It makes me feel like I’m spicing my life up a bit.”

What do you call an awards organization that nominates a friend all the time? Viola did well, except I wish it was for a more renowned role.

It was literally ‘The Help” vs “Margaret Thatcher” – a former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom? What do you expect. We act like folks in this country still don’t look up to that old “Empire?” It’s more than friends voting @Kessy, its ties, its kinship!

Come on Mrs. Streep did well! She’s a great actress.

yah right. Yah, there are 7 great actresses i can name on finger right now, and sure she’s one of them but her movie Iron Lady scored a putrid 6.3/10 compared to The Help that scored, 8.0/10 on IMDB for example. Everywhere you look, The Help scores better. So I don’t get it, except the voters want to honor some kin @Brinisha. Lol. We get it, LOL.

I remember The King’s Speech. They shd know by now that we’ve seen the pattern, and we kinda know where their allegiances lie — haha.
